Tuesday evening 1* Ride 1*
Leader:
Roger Postbeschild
Start Time:
6:30 pm
Start Location:
OMH
Description:
Our leisurely and sociable 10-mile club rides are designed specifically with adult newcomers to cycling and youngsters in mind, or those who just want some relaxed and sociable exercise. We cover a distance of about 10 miles at a gentle pace of 8-10 mph, following quiet country lanes and the occasional easy off-road track. We stop regularly to catch our breath, to take in the views and anything that takes our interest along the way.
ADVERSE WEATHER RIDE AMENDMENT
A decision is due around 17.30 about riding tonight in view of forecast thunderstorms.
If proceeding, we will join John's lower bridging two star ride which is a flat loop out to Southmoor.
Please see Facebook page for updates.
The led ride will end at The Fox, Denchworth.
PLEASE BRING LIGHTS, especially if you plan to stop at The Fox.
RIDE AMALGAMATED WITH 2 STAR WHERE RIDER STATS WILL BE LISTED

Tuesday Evening 2* Ride 2*
Leader:
John Tranter
Start Time:
6:30 pm
Start Location:
OMH
Description:

**WEATHER UPDATE, 5.30pm**
The ride is ON, but we will plan to amalgamate with any 3* or 1* riders who want to join us to do a single ride as published below.

***LOWER BRIDGING RIDE***
This is the second of our Bridging Ride series designed to help those who would like to progress to the next level of cycling. As such it will be ridden at the lower end of the pace range.

Weekly 1.5 hour rides at a riding pace of 18-20km/h (11-13mph). Not likely to be very hilly.

Optional sociable stop at The Fox, Denchworth after the ride.

A nice mellow loop around the north Vale for this one. Out via Denchworth to West Hanney, up to Southmoor, back via Charney Bassett. 16 miles, flat - a good little extra test for 1* riders and a relaxing pre-pub ride for 2* riders.
Report:
Truly terrible weather forecast - surely no-one would come out? Wrong, as usual!

A good group set off more in hope than anticipation of not being totally drowned. A bit of rain in the first few minutes reinforced this view. But - then it cleared and we got lucky! It turned out to be a slightly breezy but very pleasant run around the north Vale. We made good time, kept to a respectable 2* pace and got to the pub in good time. It was very clear that the 3* and off-road groups had indeed got drenched - we were indeed the lucky ones.

Tuesday Evening Off Road Ride 2*
Leader:
David Yearley
Start Time:
6:30 pm
Start Location:
OMH
Description:
Off-road ride around local tracks, usually about 15 miles. Knobbly tyres and good lights required. We are keen to welcome new riders and have spare lights available to borrow if you let me know. Dark, cold and wet - we'll ride in any two. But please let me know if you are coming so I can tell you if I decide to cancel due to really bad weather.
Optional sociable stop at The Fox, Denchworth after the ride.
Report:
What a fabulously wet and windy ride! You’ve got to be dedicated to your sport to love this kind of ride, but the rewards are well worth it.
Distance:
31.00 km (19.26 mi)

***LOWER BRIDGING RIDE***
This is the second of our Bridging Ride series designed to help those who would like to progress to the next level of cycling. As such it will be ridden at the lower end of the pace range.

So a meander along the foothills of the Downs: few small hills, but nothing compared to recent weeks. Taking the East Challow route to Letcombe, allows us to test the newly tarmacked Windmill Hill descent and starting the return at Uffington and coming back via Hatford and Charney Bassett.

I'll be stopping at the pub, but there is generally some returning to Grove.

Secondary ride leader will be confirmed later

Weekly 1.5 - 2 hours at a riding pace of 20-24km/h (13-15mph). May be hilly.

Optional sociable stop at The Fox, Denchworth after the ride.
Report:
So the wind had blown and the rain fallen most of the day. Much toing and froing between ride leaders and as 2 and 3 stars don't go fast enough to be dangerous on water strewn roads, the decision was to go ahead with the rides. And boy did we think we had made the right decision as the sun shone in the early evening. I even considered whether or not I needed sun cream ;) . With 6 of us, we didn't join forces with the 1&2 star combined rides, instead opting to go ahead with the planned ride.

Bit of a rain shower as we left Grove to head towards Challow, nothing much. The real rain started as we left Letcombe Regis - having come down a partially mended, gravel strewn Windmill Hill. The rain got more and more forceful. Monsoon like. When we got to Childrey, I paused to ensure that no one objected to cutting the ride short and going straight to the pub using the shortest bit of the A417 possible.

We fully expected the 2* ride to be waiting for us but by some miracle they did their full ride with barely a drop of rain :0 . Even the pub were surprised by the number of cyclists who had turned out, probably a good job that not all of us were dripping wet!
