MINCE PIE RIDE REPORT

First of all, I want to say a huge thank you to all who helped out and rode on the Mince Pie ride last Sunday. We seem to have exceeded the previous year once again in a number of ways:

- we had 5 rides on offer. Many thanks particularly to the ride leaders: Paul, Glenn, Steve, Robin and Ginny. The off-road variants seemed to be particularly exciting, with the slippery chalk soil leading to a few spills.

- it was impossible to accurately count the numbers of riders in the National Trust car park, as groups and individuals came and went over a 2 hour period. However, just going by the number of cups and pies we got through we reckon there were at least 100. We estimated 80 last year and thought that was pretty amazing, but we seem to have beaten the record. Riders turned up from Oxford, Bicester, Swindon, Didcot and Newbury. Two mountain bikers were amongst the early arrivals – it turned out they had just parked there to go for a ride and didn’t actually know about the event at all, but they were still very happy to contribute!

- the other important record broken was in the amount of money generously donated. This year we collected a magnificent £550 for the Whizz Kidz charity. For more details of the wonderful work they do, see:

Even the weather was about as good as could be expected for the time of year – it was amazing the way it didn’t quite rain!

NEXT SPECIAL EVENT – CLUB DINNER, SATURDAY 28th JANUARY 2012

We are continuing our cunning tradition of holding the annual Club Dinner a little later, so hopefully giving those of you not in strict training a chance to recover from any possible slight excesses over Christmas and New Year…

This year Glenn is very kindly organising the event again and we are going to the Woodman Inn in Fernham. There is a set menu arranged for £24.95 per person. Full details are on our website (www.ctcwantage.org.uk) or you can look at the Woodman’s own site: www.thewoodmaninn.net/set_menu_2.aspx.

We have a provisional booking of 20 places for 7.30 on the evening of Saturday 28th January. Please contact Glenn as soon as possible to confirm your places, and certainly before 14th January:

Thanks again to everyone for making this such an enjoyable Club. It is a great pleasure to be part of it.

And – let me take this chance to wish you a Happy Christmas and a very good and peaceful New Year.

Best regards
JT
